The cornerstone for a new EUR2.3mn customs office was laid in Sabac today. Serbian Minister of Finance Mirko Cvetkovic said on this occasion that Sabac Municipality gave 2.3 hectares of land for the customs office, while the Ministry provided RSD200mn for that purpose.

"Construction of Sabac customs office is an excellent showcase for cooperation between local and republic authorities”, the minister said. He added that construction of 1,300 square meter directorate, with 16,000 square meters of storage area, scales and free parking is planned. Sabac customs office includes goods entry points in Sabac, Sremska Mitrovica, Valjevo and Loznica and boarder points in Trbusnica, Badovinci, Raca, Sepak and Mali Zvornik.

Serbian Minister of Justice Dusan Petrovic also attended the start of works and said that first-degree and second-degree customs procedures will be executed in the new customs office. “Serbia signed Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union, which means that Serbian goods can be exported into the EU duty free, while over the next six years we have the right to protect our market with customs duties”, he said.

The customs office in Sabac opened in 2003, in premises rented from the Free Economic Zone. Minister Cvetkovic announced reconstruction of Raca boarder crossing in June.
